North Cheltenham Pre School (Under Construction)

Client:
City of Kingston
Architect:
DWP Architects

With a growing population thanks to recent residential developments in the area, The City of Kingston determined there was an increased need for childcare in the community around North Cheltenham. Furthermore, the existing preschool building only allowed for a maximum capacity of 30 children, and due to its age provided poor functionality for children and staff.

The new pre-school is a modern, contemporary facility that allows for a substantial increase in placement numbers – going from 30 children to around 66 children. It also provides all the functionality that a modern pre-school could need, including two activity rooms; a new staff office and meeting rooms; kitchen; storage areas; new amenities for both staff and children; three outdoor activity areas; a shaded deck and sand pit area; pram/bike parking zones; and greatly improved access through two new entry points.

The scope of works will see FIMMA create Tree Protection Zones to ensure the native flora remains undamaged; salvage and re-use existing seating; careful demolition of existing bluestone walls for re-use at a later time; significant demolition of the existing building, concrete footpaths, fencing and shed; construction of the new building, shed, fencing, pathways and parking areas; associated landscaping.

Situated on a corner block, with constant residential traffic on both sides, the new building is set to be an exciting new development for North Cheltenham, and will serve the area’s youngest residents for decades to come.
