Mordialloc Life Saving Club

Client:
City of Kingston
Architect:
Haskell Architects

A repeat client in City of Kingston entrusted FIMMA to construct the showcase Mordialloc Lifesaving Club.  Being a listed Heritage site of Aboriginal Cultural Significance meant that respect was paramount throughout the construction process. FIMMA’s Construction and Environmental Management Plan was prepared and enacted to ensure minimal impact on the environmental and the cultural importance of the site.

The external façade consists predominately of rock textured precast panels which blend well with the surrounding landscape.  Given the harsh marine environment the structural steel is protected with an anti-corrosive coating, this also extends to the remaining steel products used in the new construction.

Design features include a vantage point for the Lifeguards to monitor and control the beach area, a wide-open function room, outdoor decks, commercial kitchen, kiosk, club storerooms, changing rooms, public amenities and an important Indigenous Gathering Place and Community Space on the lower floor. This enables the building to support the local Indigenous community and wider local resident groups to hold various functions and cultural events.
